Make-up and Cosmetics to AVOID!

Lawyers specialising in beauty products claims and lawsuits are using social media to expose some of the most toxic compounds found in our everyday products, those we typically applied to our skin, and are the reasons behind massive recalls and lawsuits.

It is now more important than ever to know what we put in and on our bodies, because it seems that, as more and more become exposed, everything manufactured in our world today is designed to make us (chronically) sick. Unsurprisingly, a large part of the population is in constant pain, dealing with one or several chronic conditions and taking drugs daily.

Above is an illustration from my conference on mental health and the role that our food plays in fuelling millions of disorders and addictions, and costing healthcare systems unimaginable amounts of money and resources.

But food only plays a part. What we are exposed to daily also adds to the problem. This includes environmental pollution (car fumes, cigarette and e-cigarette smoke, forever chemicals spread by most — if not all — industries, large and small such as dry-cleaning facilities and Sulfur hexafluoride (SF6), which is commonly used to electrically insulate live equipment and still overused by the UK, even more so as a result of the growing installation of wind farms — a chemical thousand of time more warming than CO2 and virtually indestructible) and indoor pollution (which is a combination of dust collecting extremely toxic and health-damaging forever chemicals and volatile compounds, such as phthalates, formaldehyde, benzene, toluene, and other chemicals used in carpet and upholstery treatment, places were young children spend most of their time (and, therefore, are exposed to at levels much greater than adults).

Cosmetics and household products contribute to indoor pollution.

The problem is that manufacturers can sell any products without studying the impact of the ingredients on human health — ever!

You may say, sure… but if it was that bad, surely the product would be recalled.

If you have watched “Dark Waters,” you may now know that Dupont, the company responsible for contaminating the entire world with their fluor compounds that are used in nonstick cookware and waterproofing treatment, is still continuing to produce those extremely toxic products as if they do not have any responsibility whatsoever or being made accountable for their crimes against humanity.

Waterproof makeup

Did you know that waterproof mascara is made waterproof using the same compound that is used to make fabric waterproof and/or stain-proof (e.g., Scotchgard)?

Yes, waterproof mascara contains PFOAs. That means that the forever chemical that is released into the air every time you cook with nonstick cookware (or buy those products — if nobody would buy then production would cease), that is the cause of so much concern is now applied onto the skin.

Many areas in the body are so sensitive, like the eyes, because the skin on or around your eyes is thinner, they may offer direct access to the bloodstream, which means that whenever you apply waterproof mascara, your body can quickly absorb the ingredients, including those that are potential endocrine disruptors.

Other chemicals, phthalates and fragrances, can also enter our bloodstream by being inhaled through your lungs, while others can be ingested…Think lipgloss, lipstick and lip balm, and perfumes used in the recipes.

Long-lasting sweatproof 24-hour makeup (including lipsticks) also contains intentionally-added PFOAs — there is a reason things don’t melt! And PFOs are usually the go-to ingredients to make anything resistant.

If there could be anything worse, then testing makeup kits in shops are by far the worse products you can apply to your skin. Not only do they contain the same toxic compounds but they are also notoriously known to contain a multitude of disease-causing germs, including staph, e-coli, and even faecal matter (think the store assistant not washing their hands (or properly) after going to the toilets). It is a real problem considering that all products tested were found to contain those in a study.

Spray tan, sunscreen and lotions

Many major brands were found to contain benzene, a known carcinogen listed by the IARC. IARC also notes that benzene exposure has been linked with acute lymphocytic leukaemia, chronic lymphocytic leukaemia, multiple myeloma, and non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Since, exposure and time play the biggest role in disease, spraying young children with those products can have devastating effects at any time in their lives.

There is no safe limit to benzene, which means that even tiny amounts can have health-damaging effects.

Dry shampoos

It appears that most, if not all, brands have been determined to add benzene to their products. Adding further to the problem, it has been identified that benzene remains in the air after it has been sprayed and, therefore, can be inhaled (by you and anyone in the same room).

Chemical hair straightening

It has been shown that women who chemically straighten their hair at least four times a year have a twofold increased risk of uterine cancer, ovarian and breast cancer.

It is suspected that the very toxic compounds used in the products are absorbed directly into the scalp and enter the bloodstream.

The list goes on and on…
