Make Your Own: Soothing Throat spray

Eager to always learn and do everything myself, I signed up for a DIY workshop to make my own pain reliever balm (equivalent to tiger balm) and a spray for sore throat.

This workshop was conducted by naturopath Claudine Blanc.

Thanks to this initiative, I deepened my knowledge of essential oils, in particular their benefits and how to combine them and safely use them.

I believe it’s important to be interested in the methods of others and learn from them. This allows me to improve and have as little an impact on the environment.

Today, I wanted to share this experience with you. If you are a nanny or a housekeeper or someone having a very physical job, you may —like me— carry heavy stuff all day, including toddlers and older children, pulling furniture or heavy boxes, and be no stranger to muscular pain.

Since I made this homemade balm, I keep it in my bag, which offers quick relief whenever required.

Working with young children, I often experience symptoms of a small cold and it usually starts with a scratchy throat. Now I have a great recipe to relieve that too.

I highly recommend that you try these fabulous recipes.

Throat spray

Ingredients:

100 ml water
rind of a lemon
1 cinnamon stick*
1 bulb of fresh ginger* (sliced)
Thumb-size of turmeric root* (sliced)
50 drops of propolis
25 gr honey (thyme or Manuka honey)

Method:

  1. In a saucepan, pour the water and put the lemon peel and the cinnamon stick, as well as the ginger and turmeric.

  2. Bring the mixture to a boil and simmer gently for 15 min.

  3. Filter and add the propolis and honey.

  4. Pour the preparation into a glass container with a spray cap, and it's ready.

  5. Store at room temperature, out of the refrigerator, for 15 days.

Spray 3 times a day or in case of throat pain every hour, outside of meals.

* Cinnamon, ginger and turmeric can be used in powder but in this case, it will be necessary to pass the preparation through a muslin in order to filter everything well. Otherwise the liquid will not pass into the vaporizer.
